The Calculation
The production of electricity, hot water, and heating as well as the combustion of fossil fuels for transportation generate CO2 emissions. Based on CO2 emission factors for different energy sources the amount of CO2 emissions generated by your private activities is calculated.
CO2 emissions = energy consumption x CO2 emission factor
The CO2 Calculator not only calculates the CO2 emissions generated by your activity, but also determines the amount of money required to neutralise these emissions through the support of Austrian or international climate protection projects. The price for the compensation of one tonne of CO2 is derived from the costs involved in the reduction of CO2 emissions in the portfolio of Climate Austria's climate protection projects.
Your contribution in Euro = CO2 emissions x price
