District heating system based on Biomass in Krobathen A918004

Due to low comfort and high emissions of the existing central heating systems, an alternative solution using biomass had been sought for quite a while for the city centre of Krobathen. Now, a disused agricultural building has been converted into a boiler house. Because of the low costs of the conversion, a heating system using biomass as fuel has become an economical option. The heat generation is granted by a 100kW biomass-fired boiler. The heat is then conveyed to the customers, by means of heated water flowing through a 220 meter close district heating system. For the effective use of this system, the customer must install or adapt an existing buffer storage unit. With this innovative system, a reduction of 1137 tonnes of CO2 can be achieved over the period of its life-span.
